Love it or hate it, the work of Fife born artist Jack Vettriano has just lept up in price since the sale of his famous painting The Singing Butler sold for three times the expected sale price yesterday and reached almost a quarter of a million.

There doesn't seem much in the way of Easter cheer amongst the blogging world, so here is my contribution. I'm not overly religious but I do have my own beliefs. I also have kids and that usually makes Easter a fun time - but only if you don't get sucked into all the commercialisation of it. Anyway, here is a light hearted link to some Easter fun I'm off to print out some of these pictures to colour and I don't care if anyone thinks that's sad. It's fun, it's creative and it doesn't involve much thought and that's what I'm looking for in my holiday.

It's all go! Having had the scary interview for the part-time art course I now have to wait a few weeks to hear if I got in. The interviewers were really nice but it's difficult to know if someone likes your work or not. But I am staying positive about it and keeping everything crossed. Today the sun is shining and it really feels like spring. A little wren greeted me as I got out of the car at work this morning and there seem to be daffodils and spring flowers everywhere.
I've just had an email to say that I am not out of time for a course I was studying at work and would I like to complete it. A few weeks ago, and probably up until last night, I would have said no but that would be altogether far too defeatist and I hate leaving things unfinished. It seems so like failing and I really hate to do that. So I have said a tentative yes and will be taking my books on holiday with me to study frantically. Well it seems only fair when I am encouraging SED to get on with her standard grade revision.
It's my last day at work before I go off to Orkney and it feels sssssoooooooooo good. I think someone has iv'd me with happy juice this morning - or maybe it's the hangover from last night's champagne. Eitherway, I feel great. Really looking forward to getting lots of photos (hopefully as good as Doug Houghton's) and just having the time to draw, paint, read, write, be a tourist. And of course there is the whole ferry thing which always makes me feel like I am getting away from everything. I am so excited. It is a good day today.

There are days you don't know how you manage to get through. This was a "Yellow Wallpaper" day when lucid moments seem few. Listened to the play again and still find it as powerful and disturbing as when I first had to study it. It seems fitting as the building I work in used to be a sanatorium. Today I am picking up on the sadness these walls have seen. I don't want to sit here any longer than I have to.

Good news for Scottish visual contemporary art. A new arts magazine is set to be launched in September by the publishers of The List
Mona Lisa Smile is a lovely film. 1953 was only 51 years ago but attitudes have changed so much in such a short space of time. But it is still true to say that with each new generation, comes a different kind of struggle. The website has a section for you to write about someone who has touched your life or inspired you to go a different direction.

I was trying to spot April fool's articles in the online press today but got a bit confused. Is this the Guardian's one or is it for real? Is this the Scotsman one? Maybe this is the Daily Mail's contribution. But then again, the best one I have heard so far is a relative who had her "m" and "n" keys on her keyboard switched by the staff in the office. As she touch types she didn't notice for ages! And I liked SYD's contribution to the day. On being woken up by SO this morning she peeked out from underneath the duvet and said "Is this the first of April. That means it's April fool's day. I hate April fool's day. I'm so gullible". I know how she feels
