Round Up of 2004

It’s now nearly the end of another year and I’m going to try to stay away from the pc for a couple of weeks. One, because I hope that the pains in my shoulder I’ve had since July might stand a better chance of getting better without typing, two to have a rest from the blog and three because I might not be near a pc for much of the time. But before I go, I decided to look back over the year and see how it had turned out for me. It was meant to be a positive reflective exercise, trying to look for achievements and things I had developed. Here’s what I came up with - A brief summary of a year in the life of Red Writer.

Another Christmas Card

Feeling very guilty for not sending any work Christmas cards this year. So, despite the fact that no-one at work knows about my weblog I made one here on the Mr Picasso Head website. Well, it's the thought that counts and hopefully it will encourage you all to have some fun creating your own.

Skye Bridge

Today's big news story in Scotland is the removal from today of the tolls on the Skye Bridge. Hurrah! The toll booths are now officially closed for ever.

20,000

Hooray! Just noticed that I reached 20,000 visitors to the blog last Wednesday. It's not a huge target considering I've been running it for nearly three years now but it is a big milestone for me. So thank you to everyone who visits and puts up with me.

Slept in

These winter days. Less than six hours daylight. No wonder people sleep in. We're not meant to get up in the middle of the night when it's pitch dark. Not a good start to the week. I need to hibernate.

Art 'n stuff

Last week I was persuaded to attend an essay writing workshop at college. Despite being a Friday night I was glad I went, it's a while since I have written essays and I hadn't had the one I did in the summer back so I wasn't sure if I still had the knack.

Tagging Children

"Tagging provides the opportunity to break the cycle of criminal behaviour and to stabilise daily routines..." - Scotttish Executive spokesperson

Tagging is inhumane, psychologcially disturbing, leads to prolonged immaturity and abdication of parental responsibilities. - me rolls eyes

Blog Meet

If anyone is around at the weekend, there is a Scottish Blog Meet on Saturday at The Hub 2pm. Can't decide whether to go or not. I too have a Blogger hoodie so don't get me mixed up with Gordon if I go!!!!

Glenscorrodale

I didn't know Jack McConnell grew up in Glenscorrodale. I can't quite place the exact location of the farm but suspect I have passed it as I have driven over the Ross road in Arran many a time. I too have very many happy memories of Arran and am really pleased to see Jack has chosen a painting by Hamish McDonald as his official Christmas card. I have one small request. Please may I have one Jack. If any of his aides are reading, please send me an email and I'll give you the address to send it to. Or maybe if I send him one he will send me one back. I'll keep you posted.

Sometimes you read thingsthat make you shiver inside.

Gordon's Gin

I didn't think I needed a drink that badly but on browsing the Tate website I found an advert to a competition for Gordon's Gin. So now I have to wait to find out if I've won a city break and a year's supply!!! Meanwhile.....is it too early in the day for a G&T. I fear alcoholism is taking over my brain as I really really want one...NOW!

Another bad day

...will they ever end? I know much of what makes people fed up is the way they think about things but this morning no matter how I think about anything, all I can feel is anger.
